What are you planning for children at your church and community this Easter?
In addition to fun, have you thought about how the children themselves can be involved in Easter outreach and evangelism?
Hi, I’m Yvon Prehn and welcome to the Effective Church Communications Podcast!
I’ve got some ideas for how you can do that in today’s podcast:
Beyond the Easter Egg Hunt—ways to involve children in Easter outreach and evangelism
Following are notes from the Podcast, along with links to the free templates talked about in it.
Many churches hold Easter Eggs hunts of various kinds, petting zoos and other events for the children of their communities and that’s wonderful, but here are some ideas for ways that you can involve the children themselves in outreach and evangelism for Easter. In addition to the resources for children, I have a resource you can use to help parents share the true meaning of Easter with their children and the children of the neighborhood.
First, a little background on why this is important:
Don’t discount the heart your children have for evangelism
One of my nephews at about age 7 understood what it means to trust Jesus as his Savior. His parents and church were very clear in what it meant and helped him to understand, as much as his child’s heart was able, the importance and meaning of salvation.
In addition to the joy of having him make the decision to follow Jesus, one of the most interesting things that happened in the coming weeks was that he became very concerned about his younger brother –and he wanted him to come to know Jesus as his Savior also.
The boys are older now and both are growing in their faith, but the reason I’m sharing this is to remind you of the importance of not only entertaining kids at Easter, but THEM tools and training to share their faith at Easter. This is incredibly important not only for this holiday, but as training for them to learn from a young age that the Christian faith is not about being entertained, but that every holiday or seasonal event we have is an opportunity to invite others to church and to share our faith.
To help you do that, I have FREE Template sets that you can download and use. But please continue to listen because even if you don’t use the resources from Effective Church Communications, you can create resources like these for Easter or any other holiday.
Here are the three Resources that I’ll talk about:
- Invitations for Children to give their friends
- The Jelly Bean Prayer
- Resurrection Cookie Recipe
What these are in more detail

Jelly Bean Prayer
More of a thought-provoking discussion starter—on the back or web link to a clear explanation of the gospel, but it is a wonderful way to get the conversation started: https://wp.me/pDky9-1dn
Resurrection Cookies
These are not only for children, but they are a tool you can use to equip parents to help them teach their children about the true meaning of Easter. At the link below is a cover letter for parents and then the Resurrection Cookie Recipe and the verses that go with it: https://wp.me/pDky9-1dD
