Here is how Sandra Coulson from Ascension Anglican in London, Ontario Canada describes the wonderful sample of a letter to children:
Sunday School letter is a piece I helped the Sunday School teachers create to send to the children of the congregation to remind them of start-up in the fall. It might seem strange to send out snail mail to a generation that is so attached to digital communication, but the advice I received from parents and grandparents (I don’t have children myself) is that printed letters are so unusual as a form of communication for these kids that it really stands out for them. In fact, I’m told that they actually get excited when the postal carrier delivers a letter addressed to them. Who knew?
I just LOVE this! And I can imagine the excitement a child would have who received it.
In fact I liked it so much, I've made a whole set of POSTCARDS designed specifically for Kids that you can send out from your church. CLICK HERE to go to that post.
A full-size PDF of the letter is available for Effective Church Communication Members at the end of this post.
A wonderful example of the GREAT IDEA SWAP
We can learn so much from each other and one of the best things about Effective Church Communications is how we can share ideas and projects. Who would have thought about a letter like this for children, but I know because Sandra took the time to share it that many churches and little children will be blessed by others who use this idea.
PLEASE participate in the GREAT IDEA SWAP
We need lots more samples, particularly of bulletins and other basic pieces like CONNECTION CARDS or FORMS you use in the church office (and all the wonderful unique ideas you have, so we can put together e-books of samples for inspiration for church communicators). CLICK HERE for all the information on it and how to send in materials.
I can't emphasize enough how important it is that you share your communications and ideas. They are incredibly important--far more than you can imagine. You might not think your work is fancy enough or some other silly reason, but you would be amazed at the things we can learn simply seeing what others are doing.
Please take the time to do it--I personally appreciate it so much!
